I downloaded the program Windows Media Encoder like the book suggested. I found the program userfriendly and simple to use. It took me a few times to make my screencast without messing up! When we creating the podcast it was easy for me because it was only my voice. However, with the screencast I was talking, typing, and moving the mouse around all at once! It was a little more challenging, but I still found it pretty simple to complete.

I decided to do my screencast on an introduction of how to use PowerPoint. I thought that I would direct this towards the students in my third grade classroom. Every year we study Benjamin Franklin. The students read and write reports about him. I thought a great way for students to display everything they learned would be to create a presentation in PowerPoint. Some of the students in my room are already familiar with using PowerPoint and others may have little or none. All of the my students have seen PowerPoint first hand because I use it in my classroom on a regular basis. I plan on using this screencast to introduce to my students how they will be creating their own presentation. I am also thinking of posting it on my web page so my students can easily access it. Please view below!

Thanks,

Chrissy

Christina,

Thanks for posting a way to use screencasts with elementary students. I also teach 3rd grade and often think about how to use the tools we're learning at their level. Your idea would be great for initial presentation, for students who need extra reinforcement and even those who may be on homebound instruction due to illness. I noticed you are using XP as your OS. I tried downloading encoder using Vista and had many problems. I also am doing a screencast and had to download Blueberry software http://www.bbsoftware.co.uk/. It has many of the same tools, but has a fee for use. Nice job and thanks again for the ideas.

Mary
