My Podcast

I found it extremely difficult to figure out a topic to create my podcast on; however, I figured it would be most appropriate to discuss something that would be useful within my own classroom!

I used the program Audacity, and found it to be EXTREMELY easy to use. I loved it. I honestly think that I would use it more often to do things of this nature for my classroom. The only think that was remotely difficult was exporting the file to an mp3; although, after I searched…

Following a Podcast

When deciding on a podcast to follow, I found it difficult to decide. There were so many different podcasts to choose from, and covered almost every area of interest! I used the website www.podcastalley.com and chose to follow The Brain Food podcast. I found many positives and negatives in this podcast.

This podcast was dedicated to the areas of mathematics and science combined. The host, Kyle Butler, would speak of the weekly topic. These…

PodCast

I chose Ed Young Ministries Podcast. I watch him on Sunday when I can because he has a unique way of describing things that are relevant to life in general. During the week, I received several daily podcasts which were enlightening. I would typically get to listen to one per week however, since I have this podcast, I am able to listen to the daily message. By doing this, I am able to get the entire message instead of one portion that is delivered on Sunday. Attached is the feed for the…

Blog #11 My Podcast

Below is a link to my first podcast. I chose to test my first podcast out by using something related to my classroom. I decided to create my first podcast about the events in my classroom. I thought this would be helpful for both parents and the students. I summarized what we would be learning about in each subject for the week. I also said reminders about tests, homework, and assignments that are due. Also, I reminded students when we have each special(art, music, gym, etc.) so they will be…

Reaching 21st- Century Learners

This week I read an interesting journal written by Evan St. Lifer titled “Reaching 21st-Century Learners”. The question that this journal discusses is “How do we change our schools from applying technology to “what we already do,” to being able to apply what we do within a “new culture of technology?” This question is so important because 21st century learners view technology not as a way to do…

Technology vs Academic Achievment

With all of the emphasis on technology in schools today, I thought that it would be interesting to know how much the students really benefit from it. Over the past fifteen years, the amount of money spent on technology in the classroom has increased to nearly $15 billion annually. However, through recent research it has been shown that only about 20% of teachers are using the technology weekly and 50% do not use it at all. Originally, it was said that due to these numbers, there was no proof…

My podcast

I used Audacity to create my first podcast. It was very easy to use, and with the help of a google search I figured out how to export it to become an MP3. I have to admit it took me several times of trying to get through what I wanted to say without stuttering or saying "um" a million times. Nevertheless, its done....here it is in case you'd like to hear how it turned out!

Below is a link to the podcast I created. For school each week I send home a weekly update to the parents telling them about current and upcoming events, weekly lessons, student of the week, tests, and additional information. I decided to make my weekly update into a podcast. If I decide to continue creating weekly update podcasts then my students and parents will be able to access the audio version of it on the school website. I hope you enjoy it!…

Week 3 assignments entry

For the assignments this week, I created acounts on del.icio.us and flickr.com. Overall, these were pretty easy to do.

You can view my del.icio.us page here, where you'll find links about mathematics education, racing, and Pittsburgh sports. The nice thing about having the del.icio.us account now is that I can easily view my favorite links, even though I am usual on 2 to 3 different computers daily. Now that I have tagging buttons added to my… Continue
